Hi! I’m Emily, the new marketing assistant here at Cambridge Creative.
Finishing University with an English Literature degree left me with an abundance of knowledge but unfortunately no specific experience in the world of work. However, with an A-level in business and previously writing my own blog, I found that the marketing world was calling me.
But where to start? The job market is a daunting and competitive place but I stumbled across the free HubSpot courses that are available online, and I never looked back.
Social Media Marketing:
This was the first course I enrolled in; I learnt about the importance of a social media strategy and how social media is an ever changing platform, where advertising is becoming more about personalities and storytelling. I then learnt about the separate social media platforms and how each one can benefit a business in different ways.

Digital Marketing:
The second course I enrolled in was a digital marketing course where I learnt about the importance of digital marketing and growth strategies – which is achieved through SEO, social media and advertising. This course taught me about elements of the marketing world I had never heard of before, and now working and Cambridge Creative and knowing how important this element of marketing is, I’m so pleased to have completed this course! After completing my Social Media Marketing and Digital Marketing Certification I felt confident enough to apply for some entry level marketing roles.

Email Marketing:
When I first started at Cambridge Creative and was undergoing some training, I also enrolled in another HubSpot course, just to learn more about the company and the kind of jobs I’d be doing. I enrolled on the Email Marketing Course which taught me about the ways I could optimise my E Shots through copy, A/B testing and clickthrough rate – since undertaking the course I feel so much more confident when it comes to email campaigns.

I am thoroughly enjoying my role as marketing assistant here at Cambridge Creative. Since starting, all of my post-Uni worries have disappeared and my career plans have fallen into place.I’ve had a great first few months in the office, the team have been so welcoming and have taught me so much. I really do believe that without my HubSpot courses I wouldn’t have had the confidence to apply for a job here, and just having that stable foundation of knowledge behind me before even starting my role allowed me to tackle tasks with more confidence.
It’s tough finishing University, and I don’t think anyone can every fully prepare you for the end of education, but my one piece of advice would be to just keep learning whenever you can, even when you’re in work – find small opportunities to learn something new – you’ll never know when it’ll come in handy!
